Devin Haney (born September 29, 1998) is an American professional boxer. He has held the WBC interim lightweight title since 2019. As of October 2020, he is ranked as the world’s second-best active lightweight by The Ring magazine, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and BoxRec.
Haney was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in San Bernardino, California. He began boxing at the age of seven. His father, Bill Haney, was his first coach. Haney won his first amateur boxing match by knockout. He compiled an amateur record of 145–15. In 2015, Haney won the National Golden Gloves Lightweight Championship. He turned professional later that year.
Haney made his professional debut on October 10, 2015, knocking out Alberto Trujillo in the first round. He won his first thirteen fights by knockout. On August 5, 2017, he fought Antonio Moran for the vacant WBC Youth World Lightweight title. Haney won by unanimous decision. He successfully defended the title twice, before vacating it in order to compete for the vacant WBO International Lightweight title.
Haney fought Xolisani Ndongeni for the vacant WBO International Lightweight title on March 10, 2018. He won by unanimous decision. Haney made one defense of the title before vacating it in order to compete for the vacant WBC-NABF Lightweight title.
Haney fought Rey Perez for the vacant WBC-NABF Lightweight title on July 28, 2018. He won by technical knockout in the seventh round. Haney made one defense of the title before vacating it in order to compete for the vacant WBC International Lightweight title.
Haney fought Abner Cotto for the vacant WBC International Lightweight title on February 2, 2019. He won by unanimous decision. Haney made one defense of the title before being elevated to WBC interim lightweight champion on August 23, 2019.
Haney was scheduled to fight Alfredo Santiago on November 9, 2019, but the bout was postponed after Santiago suffered an injury. The rescheduled bout took place on December 15, 2019. Haney won by unanimous decision.
